A very interesting blend from a variety of vineyards and barrels. This is the “declassify blend” of Pinot barrels that did not make the cut for the single vineyard offerings. It is the most plentiful wine available, and the one head winemaker Thomas Bachelder wants you to judge him on. It stays the longest in stainless steel because Thomas wants these wines to integrate: "we're putting grapes together that have never seen one another before, so they need time to get to know each other." A romantic notion for sure; but considering all the grapes from each vineyard are vinted separately he's right. The ’06 version has bits and pieces from everyone, and the smells are all over the map: wet earth, rainy day, stony and sour cherry are the most prominent ones - while the palate is a little more straightforward with sour cherry, white pepper, red berries, stony and mineral notes. The tannins are smooth, the fruit enjoyable, and the acidity crisp. There's also a pleasant cranberry-strawberry-cherry finish that keeps you wanting more. Price: $30.00
