Rosehall Run 2005 'Cold Creek' Cabernet Franc
After fifteen months in French oak, Dan Sullivan (winemaker for Rosehall), declared this wine had seen enough. He bottled it unfiltered, waited a couple of months for the bottle shock to wear off and then released 25 cases (that's 300 bottles) and in truth that just wasn't enough. I'm not talking about the barrel time or the bottle age, Iā€™m talking about the amount released, because there should be more of this to go around ā€“ everyone should get a chance to taste this wine. Let's start at the nose: black fruit, cassis, black pepper and some herbaceous aromas are all present. In the mouth, watch out, as an avalanche of flavours cascade over the tongue: black raspberries, sour cherry, cedar, cinnamon, black fruit and a brushing of olives, all wrapped up in a fine tannin structure. Now swallow ā€“ wait for it ... there's a nice long finish that all culminates with the lasting taste of black cherries ... and it hangs and hangs and hangs. This could very well be the best Cabernet Franc from the county to date. Drink now or show some patience, this one will definitely hold for five plus years.
