Last year winemaker Lawrence Buhler was crowing about his egg shaped barrels that allowed him to keep lees in suspended animation allowing them to be in contact with more wine longer. He's using the same technique here but with a year's worth of experience under his belt he's added a whole new dimension. There are pretty honeysuckle, white flower and sweet grass aromas that lead to pear, honeysuckle, some vanilla sweetness and decent acidity on the palate - this comes from the 35% new wood that this wine rested in. Sure it's got a Sauvignon Blanc nose but the flavours are such that they are not readily identifiable as Sauvignon Blanc - but it sure is mighty enjoyable. Price: $30.20 - Rating: ****+
