Sandbanks 2006 Riesling
There are many that proclaim Riesling is Ontario’s grape to do wonderful things with; that’s because they have been privileged enough to try those Rieslings from the Beamsville Bench, where the Riesling fruit is simply top-notch; but what about the rest of the province? There aren’t too many trying their hand with this grape out in Prince Edward County, but those who do seem to have quite good success. Catherine Langlois of Sandbanks is one of those working with Riesling, and a good thing she is too as she picked up a gold medal at the 2007 Artevino awards, which honours Prince Edward County wines, for her trouble … not too shabby indeed. This dry version has a sweet nose of apples, peaches and pears – the palate follows the nose but remains dry with peach pit in the back palate and some citrus acidity, mostly lime, on the finish.
