Coyote's Run 2009 Cabernet Franc
When mother nature gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and that's preciously what Dave Sheppard has done here (well, with grapes not lemons, and the end result is not lemonade, it's wine, and ... well you get the picture...) 2009 was not a great red vintage in Ontario so there is lots of blending going on. Dave took his best 4 barrels of Cabernet Franc and put them together to create this estate Cabernet Franc (no red or black paw designation on the label). The result is an easy to consume style of Franc. Smells are a mix of red and sour cherry with a touch of floral and cigar box. Flavours are red currant and cranberry oriented with a light dusting of tobacco leaf. There's a cran-cherry spiced finish that makes this one easy going down, plus the benefit of a lovely cinnamon-spice-red-currant lingers giving the wines a nice length to the finish. Price: $19.95 - Rating: ****
