Mr. Johnson (Dave Johnson, winemaker of Featherstone) goes to New Zealand and what does he return with … a new recipe for Sauvignon Blanc perhaps? (a wine Featherstone is making a name for themselves with - along with Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Cab Franc, Gamay, and whatever else they put their grape stained fingers to). But instead of copying the Kiwi’s with their grassy, gooseberry and grapefruit, Dave has put his own spin on this wine. The nose is riddled with tropical fruit, melon and floral aromas … all these flavours follow through into the mouth, minus the floral, which is replaced with a soft, at first, mouthfeel, then crisp and vibrant acidity on the finish. The experience goes something like this: refreshing as it first hits the tongue, good melon in the middle, a crisp lip-smacking finish, and “ah” … now repeat.
