Featherstone 2009 Black Sheep Riesling
Featherstone is usually one of the first wineries out of the gate with their new vintage wines. Winemaker Dave Johnson believes in getting his aromatic whites into the bottle quickly to take full advantage of those fresh fruity smells coming off the young wine. This 2009 is no exception. The nose is green apple and mineral; the palate has big amounts of fresh fruit, lemon, green apple, and whoppingly high acidity balanced nicely by the sweetness left behind (a 2 on the sugar code if you need to know) – refreshing and tart, yet slightly sweet, this wine has very good balance that’ll confuse the tongue and please the palate. Price: $16.95 – Rating: ****½
