Featherstone 2005 Cabernet Franc
Featherstone continues to impress me with their wines and their innovation, I find myself looking forward to their '06 reds and their '07 whites, but for now, this will have to tide me over until they're doors re-open in April (they close from Christmas to April every year, giving owners Louise and David time to recoup from their busy season). From the hot, dry, short-crop 2005 season, this Franc exhibits classic Ontario nuances and flavors (for Franc anyway). Heavy herbaceous notes on the nose that also hint at cranberry ... in the mouth you get a big black fruit component with some smoky tobacco and cherry. Very nice now but still requires a few years in bottle to show even better. Many folks are fond of Louise's recipes - here's mine for this Franc: buy now, lie down, wait, open 2010, enjoy.
