Dennis Sanson is an interesting fellow – I’m not just saying that because I've met him, I say it based on the wines he produces. I would have to say he makes some of the best in the Lake Erie North Shore region, and some of the most innovative. Take this Barn Cat blend, named for the annual litter(s) of kittens that appear in his barn: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and a dollop of Pinot Noir (10%). The nose is full of cedar and coffee bean; the taste is vanilla, mocha, a little peppery and some acidic zing on the finish. At first, I noted "pleasant, undescribable, but I know I like it". Twenty minutes later, what was in my glass changed: the peppery and coffee turned to red fruit and sweet vanilla, and all was right with the world. Another winner from Sanson, no wonder I like this place. Price: $16.95
