Malivoire 2006 Chardonnay Musque “Spritz”
I picked up this wine during the Malivoire Spring open house … actually it was a reactionary wine purchase, I had just been to Tawse and was denied the ability to buy a single bottle of their Musque (instead being forced to buy 6 if I wanted any at all); suddenly I wanted a summertime Musque and dang it, someone was going to get my money and I was going to get a single bottle … Martin Malivoire was happy to accommodate taking control of my money and my tastebuds by providing a more than decent bottle of wine; in fact, it was a great end of summer surprise. When I opened this one on a mild November afternoon and tasting my own bottle for the first time I was more proud and impressed with this purchase than any other bottle of wine I had brought home that spring. It took me back to those early hot spring days when the birds were chirping, the buds were breaking and the smell of newness was in the air. Peach and apple are the primary fruits with a bit of lemon freshness hiding out in the background. But what really gives this wine its true freshness is that little bit of “spritz” … and it’s light 9% alcohol makes this an ideal afternoon delight any time of year. As Cole Porter would have been more than happy to proclaim: “It’s delicious, it’s delightful, it’s de-lovely.” This wine is now officially sold out but I would suggest giving Malivoire a call and getting your name on the 2007 “Spritz” list … it’s definitely one you’ll want around for the summer … and it sells out by early fall (and I do mean early).
