This is a different take on Vinho Verde, made from 100% Alvarinho from a single parcel of land and aged 9 months in new French oak, on its lees with plenty of “batonnage” (stirring). Sweet vanilla on the mid-palate with good weight and showing some real elegance … there’s even a hint of smokiness, but none of this detracts from the fruit that comes across with delicate peach and pear nuances throughout; you’ll even find a touch of butterscotch lingering on the finish.  Rating: ****+
