Probably one of the best reds I tried while visiting the Vinho Verde region, probably because it had no Vinhao. This wine’s make up is three indigenous varieties of Portugal: Alvarelhao, Pedral and Cainho all made in stainless steel tank keeping it fresh and fruity; it’s constructed in a “white wine style” which is why the fruit jumps out of the glass with strawberry and cherry juice with a floral kick – light, flavourful and very fresh with a linger of tobacco and raspberry on the finish. To give it some international context it’s like Gamay and Cabernet Franc got married and had a baby. Rating: ****
