Hopefully by now you’ve at least heard about Honsberger, Niagara’s best kept secret that everyone should know about – their patio is already legendary for the who’s who in Niagara you’ll find there after dark, and their wines continue to get better with Kelly Mason at the helm. Their rosé is a perennial favourite of mine and now an award winner (Gold – National Wine Awards of Canada), and if there’s any justice in the world, so too will their Cabernet Franc be. The 2015 is their best Franc to date, layered and lovely: nose is pure black raspberry, cherry, tobacco, blackberry and cassis; flavour department also delivers on multiple levels: sweet cherry tobacco, smoky, spiced-raspberry, cassis and anise. With its alluring nose and spicy red berry palate the wine really shows off the quality of the estate vineyard’s fruit and winemaking behind it. A wine to enjoy now or for the next decade to come.
