It took almost a week before I hit these scoring heights again on my trip through New Zealand, and this one came in the Central Otago proper, home of Pinot Noir in New Zealand. This barrel selection (4 in this vintage) Pinot Noir is just so rich in all aspects: fruit, minerality and structure – big dark fruits like plum and black cherry meet somewhere in the middle with some smoked-cherry, adding cinnamon, clove and pepper to the finish, then add in some interesting floral nuances and this wine is going places you’ll want to folow … give it a minimum 5 years to get there.
