It was the second winery I tasted at in New Zealand and already I was passing out big scores … was it me in a strange land or just a really good wine? This is a 50%+ Cabernet Sauvignon dominated red blend from Waiheke Island – there’s also Malbec, Merlot, Carmenere and Cabernet Franc in the mix: dense and smoky with vanilla, cherry, strawberry and black currant along with a mocha mid and touch of tobacco that sticks around all the way to the finish. It’s a limited edition, cult-like wine that goes for over $125 and it’s easy to see why.
