Te Mata 2016 Awatea

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc from the Hawkes Bay region. Who knew Hawkes Bay could make such beautiful red Bordeaux blends when all we see (in Ontario, Canada) is Syrah from this region. A saline like nose and taste that mixes in cherry, blackberry, plum, anise, mocha and tobacco; simple spices show up on the finish along with a good acid backbone – hallmark of cool climate reds: elegant, complex and simply gorgeous.
