Let’s start with the pronunciation; it’s Vidal with a long “I” in the middle, not like the grape but more like the “I” in vi-olin … here 20% Merlot plays nicely with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon in a 2 vineyard blend (Omaku and Anthony Vidal): plum, mocha, cherry, along with white and black pepper, elegant spices and just a touch of oak, which is surprising considering the wine sits in 50% new for 19 months – good texture and balanced acidity, yet there are some muscular tannins on the finish. This is going to settle into a real beauty.
