When you get to Henry of Pelham’s estate series you start seeing a more serious side to Chardonnay. This is a 3-vineyard blend of their older vines (planted: 1988-1999) all barrel fermented and aged for 10 months … The beginning and middle seem like typical Chardonnay with vanilla, burnt butter and lime pith along with some apricot, peach and balancing acidity. The finish is where this wine truly shines as it hints at French toast in burnt butter or the crispy edges of pancakes “fried” in butter – either way it’s delicious.
