Big Head 2016 Bigger Red Select

Love the way this wine comes together: it’s aged 16 months in mostly older French oak, and it’s a blend of four different grapes: 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot all going through the drying process (aka: appassimento) – they spent 8 months of that aging apart and then another 8 months together – which allows the wine to cohesively come together. It’s creamy yet juicy, peppery yet fruity, plus smoky and dark fruited all at the same time, and it’s that great complexity (and dichotomy) that makes it such a complete wine that will age 10+ years with ease.  Price: $55.00 – Rating: ****+
