The first vintage of this wine was made in 1990 and commemorates the 900 years of history of the company (est. 1090) … fast forward some 25 years and the 2015 vintage is considered one of the best vintages ever in the region – and potentially all of Italy. The wine is similar in make-up to the Chianti Classico, but uses older vines (20 year average in age): 95% Sangiovese with 3% Canaiolo and 2% Colorino … Aromas of leather, smoke, blackberry and cassis lead to a palate that tones down the leather and replaces it with rich dark fruit and hints of chocolate; the kicker is the finish which layers in black cherry, cigar box and white pepper.
