(March 9, 2015) ... On my first foray out on the streets of Philadelphia (cue the Springsteen music) I found the wine store with barely a hiccup and I easily dropped $80 on a basket of wines I could not get on my side of the 49th (parallel) ... The first one I tried was by Peirano Estate, part of their Heritage Collection, from California. This Merlot was pretty much what I would expect from a Cali-Merlot: lots of soft, silky fruit on a smooth palate. Aromas spoke of chocolate and sweet plum with a touch of blueberry; palate was that silky smooth plum, cherry and blueberry fruit. A pretty good first night wine, nothing too taxing, but tomorrow I'm expecting better.
