From the Cellar

Rocca Delle Macie 2002 Rubizzo (Italy)

01 Nov 2015

(June 10, 2015) ... I have been rather lucky when it comes to my cellar, I have inventory some cellars that have dozens of leaky bottles, but my luck seems to be holding as I have seen very few in my own cellar (and as I type this with my right hand I am knocking on wood with the left). Today was the exception as the leaky cork on this bottle forced me to take notice and open it ... Aromas were of dried plum (prune), fig, and dried cherry; palate follows in lock-step with the nose. It was an interestingly odd, smooth, and drinkable wine, still with a nice balance of acidity and just a touch of sweet cedar on the finish. Gotta love these old Italian wines with character.
