From the Cellar

A Wine Before I Go (Spain)

Zinio

(December 27, 2017) ... One more wine from my own cellar before I head off to Australia and New Zealand ...

Zinio 2015 Garnacha (Spain) ... Rioja has never been a favourite of mine, the old school versions are just dated to me and seem to lean on oxidized and dried fruit along with forest floor instead of fruit, but as the new school of winemakers take hold they are bridging the gap and making Rioja seem relevant again ... case in point, this Zino has lots of up front fruit, namely cherry and plum backed by elegant spices, it's a little lean but ultimately it's a tasty wine with a spiced-cherry finish and 14.5% alcohol ... it really bridges the gap between the old school Rioja and the contemporary winemaking of other regions in Spain.
