From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Mr. Riggs 2013 Yacca Paddock Tempranillo (Australia)

20 Oct 2016

(March 6, 2016) ... I would have to say that I never expected to find a Tempranillo in Australia, and even if I had I would not expect it to be this good.  Simplicity is the key to this wine and in keeping with that simplicity it is an amazing wine to drink with its raspberry and white pepper leading the way from beginning to end - I am hoping with a little age I'll get more interesting aromas and flavours from it, but for now it is delicious in its simplicity.

Loredona 2009 Pinot Noir (California)

29 Sep 2016

(March 4, 2016) ... Ever since my visit to Monterey several years ago (for the Jazz Festival) I have been a fan of the wines coming out of there, especially the Pinot and Chardonnay. This one was pulled out on a salmon-chanted-evening (we were having salmon for dinner) and as is customary I pour a glass before dinner and one during. I was impressed with the generous cran-cherry fruit and how well-balanced it was with it's acid-bearing backbone ... Best part is how well it paired with the salmon.
