From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Easton 2012 Zinfandel, Amador County (California)

14 Dec 2016

(May 5, 2016) ... Hello Amador Zin, Goodbye heart ... I'm a fan of Amador County Zins ever since my buddy Dave (from Michigan) introduced me to some a few years back. This Easton was no different. It's a plum, cherry, blackberry, black cherry number, with hints of spice, cardamom, white pepper and nice tannins on the finish. The only thing the nose had that the palate did not was a hint of burnt chocolate.

Charles Smith 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Snipes Mountain (Washington)

10 Dec 2016

(April 29, 2016) ... This is one of those bottles I got 1) from the USA and 2) from a wine club called Virgin Wines - yes the Richard Branson Virgin, not the Sam Jonas Virgin ... They claim you'll always love the wines they ship - and for the most part I've been happy with what I have received in my mystery shipments. Charles Smith has made quite the name for himself in the Washington wine world, and in truth around North America, so I was excited to try this "west coast" cab. From the get-go there was lots of blueberry and raspberry with a touch of cinnamon; then in swept the blackberry, blueberry, cassis, vanilla, and spice. There were also herbaceous elements but the fruit raises the bar of this wine to delicious ... I also found a very Washington note of coffee / mocha on the finish.
