From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Watchdog Rock 2012 Merlot (Washington)

03 Aug 2016

(December 19, 2015) ... Living on the Eastern side of the country (and a different country at that) means Washington State wines are few and far between, after all they make only about 4% of the total wine production in the US - and surprisingly that still puts them in the top 5.  I picked this bottle up at a Meijer in Michigan (think Wal-Mart but classier), I was just looking for something different that I couldn't get at home; what I got was a pretty simple wine with plum, blueberry, smoky-vanilla, and black cherry; though I was a little taken aback to find it was a touch grittier than expected on the finish. Decent bottle for a simple evening.

2004 Les Deux Anges (France)

02 Aug 2016

(December 12, 2015) ... Lately I'm on an older wines kick, a few days ago I was pulling out 2005's, now I going back a little further with a bottle of Domaine de Cabasse 2004 Sablet, Les Deux Anges - a Cote du Rhone Villages wine: dried red fruits and foresty-floor mingle together with a smooth touch of smoky oak - considering its age and what I paid for this bottle it's great.
