(Print a .pdf version of this newsletter)

Wine is romantic for so many reasons, over time we will explore the many facets of romance and wine … this is just one of them. Sure wine is a party drink, it brings people together, loosens tongues and makes them fast friends; but wine is also important for couples, especially when you’re alone together. For centuries wine has been the epitome of romance: in front of the fireplace, an elegant dinner for two, or even in a hot tub. There is romance in each glass; and the nicest part is that wine allows you to travel, no matter where you are or what your budgetary restraints might be. You open a bottle from Chile or France and you are immediately transported to that country. You hold in your hand something from Italy or Australia … you can taste Napa or the Santa Ynez Valley… you’re looking at Argentina or Greece – all with the simple swirl of the glass, sniff of the bouquet, and sip of the wine. Wine has the ability to transport you back from where it came – whether it’s a 2004 Australian Shiraz or a 1999 Italian Borolo. You are holding, tasting and smelling another place. The next time you and that special someone want to take a trip to somewhere exotic, but lack the funds to hop on a plane, try this simple getaway idea – open a bottle and transport yourself to where the wine is from … just open, breathe deep, sip and you’re there, pictures are optional. Cheers.

I have to admit that I am not a Pinot Noir drinker … I have tried a good number of them and decided awhile back that it was not my grape of choice, which is why this Konzelmann Pinot came as such a treat (and surprise). Smooth as silk on the palate with a hint of spice – oh so nice (had to rhyme it, sorry) … “almost has a sweet taste” said someone in attendance at this tasting – but is still ranked a zero on the sugar code. This one is quite tasty … enjoy.

Visit www.konzelmannwines.com for more details or to purchase this great wine. Also available at the LCBO.

Image Uncorked and Decanted : Nifty gadgets and accessories that enhance wine enjoyment.

I like to bring your attention to some neat or every day accessories that will bring you more enjoyment to your wine experience … here’s something simple but it can make all the difference in the world when used properly – a decanter. I never thought I’d own one, nor did I think I would have use for one – the bottle was good enough for me … but now I own four. Why? Some, like the duck-style decanter, are just fun to have but the real reason is to tame those overpowering tannic laced wines. If you like an easier drinking wine and are faced
with something a little to harsh for your liking, you can try smoothing it out by airing the wine in a decanter or sometimes just the act of transferring the wine from bottle to decanter can do the trick. In an upcoming article we’ll discuss decanting in more detail – until then, go pick yourself up an inexpensive glass decanter from a kitchen store … you’ll be glad you did.
