From the Cellar

McManis 2008 Syrah (California)

26 Jul 2015

(March 28, 2015) ... I think it was tasting the current vintage of this wine that made me want to open this older version that has been languishing in my cellar ... The nose proved to be a little smokey, a little peppery, but definitely with some red fruit and hints of dried raspberry around the edges; it was a pleasant nose that seemed to call out, "drink me, c'mon, I won't bite".  Palate proved to also be quite approachable: a little white pepper, a good amount of spiciness, still with fairly firm tannins and fruit that lay on the freeze dried side of things of a strawberry-raspberry blend. An hour later the wine seems to have developed a certain thickness in the mouth and dried dark fruit texture where cassis and black pepper cohabitate.

The other wine opened was a Strewn 2011 French Oak Chardonnay ... the full review of which can be found here.
