(September 24, 2016) ... Is old South Africa better than new South Africa, it's time to find out ... The Wolftrap is a staple at the LCBO these days, back when this came out it was a Vintages wine that appeared once a year (maybe twice if you were lucky). I find it a hit and miss wine, quality-wise, but this '04 was good value and quality ... Today it's smoky, leathery, earthy, and a touch tarry on the nose - very similar to new South African reds; the palate is a little more enticing with dried fig, cassis, and coffee while still doling out everything from the nose on to the palate.
