Taste it Again: Norman Hardie 2005 Riesling

24 Aug 2015

(April 28, 2015) ... In the past I have talked about pre-mature petrol notes in hot vintage Ontario Rieslings, and no vintage suffered that as badly as 2005. I have gone back to many and learned that in some rare cases the petrol subsides, but in others it seems even more pungent ... This Norm Hardie had aromas rich in patrol and kerosene, thankfully I don't smoke as I would be fearful I'd light the place on fire. Palate had a little more depth showing lime and apricot, but still with a little kerosene on the palate and a little oxidized apple on the finish. The acidity seemed to mellow with some time in glass, making it a very mellow drink with lime meringue and an apple juice finish ... I would have to say as interesting and educational as it was this wine has not stood the test of time. Sorry Norm.
