From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Cono Sur 2015 Cab Sauv El Recurso Single Vineyard - Block № 18 (Chile)

Cono Sur Cab Sauv El Recurso

(June 13, 2020) ... Another CoVid-era brother dinner, where I get out of the house and visit my brother and have dinner with him and his family during the days of the pandemic, Phase 3. This 5 year old Cabernet is a delight to the senses from nose to palate to finish. There's a touch of mint on the nose, which screams Chilean Cab to me, plus lots of dark berry, black cherry, smoky, spicy, vanilla, and blackberry ... There's a good tannin structure yet with a silky finish that gives hints of raspberry, mocha and cherry. By the final sip and the last drop you're dealing with a smooth, silky Cabernet.

Caymus 2014 Zinfandel Napa Valley (California)

Caymus 2014 Zinfandel

(May 31, 2020) ... My first post-CoVid (nope we're not there yet), let's call it post-lock-down dinner, when we were allowed to expand our bubble outside our own house ... so I added my brother and his family into the mix (who else?). It seemed a good reason to celebrate and out came this Zin from Caymus from a vintage where they "simply nailed" Zinfandel. Plum, black cherry, spice-blackberry, hints of chocolate and mocha with vanilla backing. Silky smooth entry with a spicy finish. The more you sip the juicier and more succulent the wine gets, the more enjoyable it is and that long finish throws it to yet another level.
