From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

ACWC 2017 - Day 1 wines

15 Dec 2018

(June 6, 2017) ... I always take a number of bottles to the judging of the All Canadian Wine Championships, and usually stuff that is non-Canadian, just for a change of pace. Today's offerings were Bordeaux  and Washington:Ch. Grand Maison

Chateau Grand Maison 2006 Cuvee Speciale Cotes de Bourg - Bordeaux ... A little dusty and chalky but with an element of dried fruit and woodsiness - it sounds old and tired but it was still better than the Washington wine ... a Snoqualmie 2007 Whistle Stop Red Cabernet / Merlot ... because it was corked.

South American Cabs of 2004 (Argentina / Chile)

06 Nov 2018

Chakana Cabs of 2004(April 29, 2017) ... The urge to open a couple of 2004 South American Cabs tonight struck me as a good idea to see how the would fare against one another:

Chakana 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon - Argentina ... Tricky little black plastic cork - oxidized - prune-y - funky finish - wow this wine sucked so bad.

La Playa 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Block Selection - Chile ... The Chileans got it right by putting a natural cork in the bottle, when first open the wine was all dried fruit and acidity, that acidity settles with time and some cedary notes begin to play with the dried fruit ... It's ok but not exciting.
