From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Emilio Moro 2014 Ribera Del Duero (Spain)

Emilio Moro

(March 12, 2017) ... A bottle I got as a gift and was not sure when to open it - why tonight? Why not. Dried, smoky and cedary notes lead things off on the nose while on the palate it was also lagging behind in the fruit department - with a little time something resembling fruit started to emerge and by the time the bottle was empty it was spiced-cassis, pencil shavings, dried cherry, and marinaded prunes. I want to think I waited to long, but who the hell knows, maybe this is what the winemaker wanted.

Oak Ridge 2014 Petite Sirah, Old Vine (California)

Oak Ridge 2014 PS

(March 9, 2017) ... Big time chocolate, plum, fig with some byng cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, mocha and licorice; lots going on here and it was just a wonderful quaffing wine that produced maximum enjoyment - I would have thought the alcohol higher but it was only 13%.
