From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Yellow Tail 2006 Shiraz, Limited Release (Australia)

01 Sep 2017

(June 17, 2016) ... Cracked this one with my backyard neighbour who seemed to think I was opening something really special because of the box it came in, I said "please, it's a Yellow Tail", but I have to admit it turned out to be something even more special than even I wasn't expecting.

Surprisingly spicy and layered with peppery, plumy, black cherry, chocolate, red and black currants ... for those who think Yellow Tail is too plain and simple, this one over-delivered especially for its age and pedigree.

Concha y Toro 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Marques de Casa Concha (Chile)

21 Jul 2017

Concha y Toro 2008 Cab(November 26, 2016) ... I was once at a tasting of the Marques Cabernets from Concha y Toro and I was blown away by their age-ability, so I have little fear in putting them to the test. This 8 year old version did not disappoint: aromas of blackberry, cassis and pepper, that were slightly woody in nature, led to a palate of cocoa, blackberry, cassis, some smoky notes and a peppery spicy finish with some lovely hints of licorice ... I really thought that wood note from the nose would play a part on the palate but I was happily proven wrong. Has at least a year or two left at this level of enjoyment.
