From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Ben Glaetzer 2004 Heartland Shiraz (Australia)

11 Jul 2017

Heartland 2004(July 21, 2016) ... Not really sure I have anything good to report here:  Either the wood has taken over or there is a slight corkiness to this wine - there is also an undercurrent of smoky, earthy, and bretty notes with some dried dark fruit and leather on the finish. It was far from enjoyable so I had a half glass before I tapped out and dumped the rest. Hey, they can't all be gems.

Clayhouse Wines 2012 Adobe Red (California)

06 Jul 2017

Adobe Red(June 12, 2016) ... A true kitchen sink blend with 38% Petite Sirah, 34% Zinfandel, 12% Cab Sauv, 10% Syrah, 3% Tempranillo and 2% Malbec ... Not sure how long I would even age this wine, but in relative terms it is quite young and probably drinking it early is best.  Plum, black cherry, and vanilla aromas lead to a palate of chocolate, plum, black cherry, white pepper, nice acidity, and rich, bold flavours - this one's not good for the long haul, but it sure is tasty is the short term.
