From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Korta 2007 Syrah, Barrel Selection (Chile)

Korta 2007 Syrah

(January 7, 2016) ... This awesomely cool labeled Syrah is spicy and peppery with cassis, blackberry and coffee ... there's a nice balance of fruit to acidity and a wonderfully robust black pepper finish. There's even a touch of dried dark fruit that adds another layer and keeps you coming back.

Cellar No 8 2007 Zinfandel (California)

Cellar No 8 2007 Zinfandel

(January 2, 2017) ... My first wine of 2017 that did not have bubbles in it, the three before this did, not sure why I kicked off the still wine year with Zinfandel, but then again, why not. This 9-year-old Cellar 8 was another in a line of wines I was circumspect about when pulling the cork out but was pleasantly surprised at what I found on the other side:  lots of smoked raspberry, with baked-plum-pudding and burnt cocoa; this one was still nice but running low on gas (so to speak), if you've got some it really is time to drink up.
