From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Kendall-Jackson 2007 Summation, Vintner's Reserve (California)

29 Dec 2016

(May 13, 2016) ... This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel was actually much better than I expected, and I'll admit I was expecting something tasty. Aromas of subtle white pepper, spiced plum, and mocha led to flavours of spiced-cassis, spiced-plum, black cherry, and mocha. And there was even more as the night progressed: spicy and peppery dark fruit played on the mid-palate while dark cocoa rounded it off on the finish.

La Crema 2014 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley (Oregon)

29 Dec 2016

(May 11, 2016) ... It's podcast night in Toronto, and while I don't remember which Podcast we recorded on this particular night I do know the wine we drank: La Crema 2014 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley - Oregon. My podcasting partner, Andre is jazzed about his upcoming trip to the west coast and it's wineries, so he managed to get a bottle of Willamette Pinot for the occasion ... Made by winemaker Elizabeth Grant-Douglas, whom we did get to speak to in a future podcast (listen to it here) from Oregon fruit: this was a very fruit driven affair, with red and black cherry; good California extraction with some Oregon flair and acidity. Juicy and fruity with a dusting of cocoa on the finish.
