From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Valdivieso 2009 Old Vines, Single Vineyard Malbec (Chile)

17 Jun 2016

(October 22, 2015) ... Years ago I was able to get some pretty low end stuff from the local wine store (LCBO) from this producer - and I loved the name of the winery, it had one of those names that made you believe you really could speak Spanish ... but times have changed and now only the high priced spread comes to town ... and thank goodness for that cause this truly is a beauty: Starts off very smoky then adds blackberry, cassis, black cherry, and white pepper, there's even some hints of mocha and anise on finish that round this wine off nicely. I'd happily buy the high priced spread again if it continues to taste like this.

Two From Bodegas San Alejandro (Spain)

17 Jun 2016

(October 17, 2015) ... Tonight it's two bottles from the same winery in Spain, and both Garnacha ... starting with the Bodegas San Alejandro 2005 Las Rocas Garnacha Vinas Viejas ... dried blackberries, forest floor, pencil shavings and pepper on the nose, palate delivered spicy dried fruit and very mature flavours, but it does smooth out nicely and becomes an easy drinking red with some interesting layers.

Next up, the Bodegas San Alejandro 2006 Las Rocas Garnacha which proved to be quite plummy with dried black cherry and anise notes ... this wine is drinking beautifully right now; if you've got some pop the cork and enjoy.
