Taste it Again / Lost & Found

On occasion, I’ll take a wine I like and put it away in a “special box” for a few years to see how it will age … below you will read happened to those wines. On the other hand, there are wines that get “lost” in my wine cellar with nary a review ever written - some have turned into golden Treasures, others supreme Trash and then there are those that fall somewhere in-between (Tolerable). We’ll look at those here too. (New wines are being added all the time so keep coming back):

Taste it Again: Creekside 2007 Laura's Blend Red

03 Jul 2015

(March 20, 2015) ... This is the full on five-grape version of the Laura's Red, if memory serves (and it might) this was the first year all five Bordeaux grapes went into the Laura's: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Time has been good to Laura as she continues to age gracefully, both in bottle and in glass. Nose is most prominent with anise, cassis, and mocha aromas; these follow onto a complex palate that adds oak, cedar, coffee, and spice to the above. Finish is smooth with cafe mocha and dried dark fruit linger ... Laura, from 2007, is still a real beauty and one you'll want to hang in with for the length of an evening, she may even have a few years left in her.

Taste it Again: Coyote's Run 2009 Pinot Blanc

03 Jul 2015

(March 15, 2015) ... It's a crying shame that Coyote's Run no long makes Pinot Blanc, because boy did they do it justice. That said I was surprised to see I still had a bottle left in my cellar, so I decided to see how it has stood up. The nose had hints of beeswax, floral, and pear but most of these enticements were relinquished on the palate where the aromas from the nose did not translate,  instead flavours became more citrusy with a finish full of grapefruit pith and lime, but still with a hint of acidity to keep it relatively fresh. Surpringly still drinkable, though just barely.
