Taste it Again / Lost & Found

On occasion, I’ll take a wine I like and put it away in a “special box” for a few years to see how it will age … below you will read happened to those wines. On the other hand, there are wines that get “lost” in my wine cellar with nary a review ever written - some have turned into golden Treasures, others supreme Trash and then there are those that fall somewhere in-between (Tolerable). We’ll look at those here too. (New wines are being added all the time so keep coming back):

Chateau des Charmes 2010 Gamay Droit

(April 12, 2017) ... I kicked off the evening with what I presumed would be a throw-away wine, Chateau des Charmes 2010 Gamay Noir Droit, I never expect much from this wine when I find an aged bottle (5+ years), up until a few years back I thought the wine was oak aged, but I found out it is unoaked, which really confuses my mind, especially when you taste this wine. As it turned out this 2010 version is not over-the-hill, in fact it is exquisite and drinking quite well: blueberry, pepper, cassis, blackberry, still lively and slightly smoky (where does that come from?) plus a little boysenberry on the finish helps round it out. WOW!

Taste it Again: Lailey 2009 Chardonnay, Niagara Peninsula - again

Lailley 2009 Chardonnay

(April 7, 2017) ... Still a very good bottle of wine even now, 8 years from vintage date: canned peaches, praline, vanilla, still good acidity with some lime notes on the finish and some bruised apple at its core. It's still lively and enjoyable - though I'm not sure I'd wait much longer. There is a hint of mushroom here that seems to drift in and out half an hour after opening. (see original review here)
